I spent the day at KISH early this week – with Ito himself and Carlo Tadiar. I did a project for Metro Home magazine. It involved playing in this wonderful playground of all things beautiful. I can’t wait for you to see the results of our work. It’ll be out in the next issue.

While setting up, I went around this huge store to see what’s new. Nothing comes close to the way Ito Kish does visual merchandising. He makes everything look so beautiful and well edited. Here are some snapshots from how his store looked like last Monday. By the time you visit, it may look different. Ito told me he’s getting the store ready for Christmas.

Urban Zone: Resort-style home

This isn’t the first time we’ve featured a resort-style home in Urban Zone. It seems a few home owners choose to live like they’re on vacation at all times.

This house sits on a steep incline. The architect, Amy dela Paz, created a modern type of architecture with two clusters separated by a swimming pool in the middle. Upon entering the house, you see a mosaic tile wall that’s supposed to have water cascading down like a waterfall. Above it is the swimming pool. At the time of our visit though, the mechanism for the infinity pool to overflow wasn’t working.

The left side of the house has the formal living room and dining area. There is a mezzanine above the dining area that continues to walk above the kitchen in the other room. The kitchen then opens to a deck fronting the pool. The other side of the house has all the bedrooms and private areas.

Urban Zone airs every Friday night after SOCO, in ABS-CBN Channel 2.

My family, doing what they love

These are things they do that make me miss being with them. I wish they were just next door. All photos in a span of one week in Toronto.

Saturday night.
I posted this photo during cocktails with my husband. Here’s what my mom said…

It’s great to see them enjoying life together. They’re off to Cuba this weekend. Hence, the mojito talk. This photo was shot by my nephew Arbie Santos, my cousin’s son. He’s visiting Toronto. My folks took him around the usual spots. Niagara Falls was “usual” to us. My dad flew the chopper over the falls for many years. Lovely rainbow.

Meanwhile this is my older brother, Cyrus and his 10 year old daughter Isabel. He is quite the sportsman. Loves the outdoors and all – hunting, fishing, skiing. About ten years ago, he and my dad took me kayaking in Algonquin for 5 hours. I haven’t forgiven him for that. Now thankfully, he has a son and daughter whom he takes hunting for pheasants. This photo is from Arbie too.

“Please don’t judge my brother. He is not a book.” Hunting is a regulated sport in Canada. And he’s a great shooter. They’re having pheasant for family lunch this weekend. Did I mention that he’s a awesome cook too? Photo by Arbie Santos.

Hanni and Friends in New York
My younger sister Hanni took a couple of days off from work and family and went to New York City with her girlfriends. A great escape from work and motherhood. I love this idea. We all deserve a break like this. Hanni went with her closest friends who date back from high school – Raquel M, Hanni, Anna P, Charlotte D, Agatha M. She insisted they drop by Balthazar’s because it’s her Ate’s favourite in NY (that would be me).

Meanwhile, my brother in law -Trevor Holmes, Hanni’s husband – is participating in this year’s Movember. He normally doesn’t have a mustache. Here’s Trevor’s the spiel:

It’s Movember, the month formerly known as November, dedicated to growing moustaches and raising awareness and funds for men’s health issues, specifically cancers affecting men. Please support my efforts by making a donation here. We only have a month to grow and support these Movember moustaches, so please come along for the ride.

Thank you for donating at and for helping me change the face of men’s health. Go the Mo!

And this is my newest nephew, the son of my youngest sister Pauline. Remembrance Day is such a beautiful and solemn occasion. I love this photo. This very distinguished veteran got up from his wheelchair when my sister asked for a photo. I have a soft spot for veterans being a daughter of a military officer. Remembrance Day always reminds me to be thankful to all the men and women who fought during WW1 (and WW2 also).

This is just a portion of my family. I have three more nephews plus my brother-in-law Mathieu and my sister-in-law Julia. I miss them all.

New textures

I was playing with some of the features of my new Olympus PEN E-P3. The camera comes with some awesome art filters – I love soft focus, pale and light, light tone and pin hole. It’s like playing with Instagram. I’ve also been tinkering around with the full manual mode because I love shooting manual. I’m still getting used to this interesting feature called manual focus assist. It really reminds me of the old film cameras. I’m not too good yet, so I won’t share photos of those ’til I have something I can be proud of.

I got the newest collection of K&Company dresses last night. I took some tight shots using art filters. Only the first and last photos show natural colours, all the rest are filtered. I was in awe of the new textures and fabrics this season. We’re looking at combinations of lace and satin, linen and lace, tweed and crystal beads. Beautiful.

I also got a new hair stick from Evita Peroni. It’s lovely and totally functional. It can hold a French twist forever. Did you get the 2011 Vogue Best Dressed issue? The sibling stories are great. So chic. And Jimmy Choo fragrance. A very light version because it’s just an EDT. I wonder what will happen to the posters and collaterals now that Tamara Mellon has resigned (a very, very rich woman). And yes, still reading Steve Jobs.
