Terrariums by RAAB

Ever since I saw my friend Carlo Tadiar’s collection of terrariums, I felt there was something about this old hobby/art that I could possibly grow to love. I don’t have a green thumb. Every green thing I own ends up dying. Quite the opposite of my mother who can make hibiscus and orchids bloom even in the dead of winter.

Carlo’s terrariums and jars are beautiful. Carlo just picked up the hobby by reading up on it. (Carlo is the Editor in Chief of Metro Home).

Then I saw these terrariums by RAAB at Isabel Gatuslao’s apartment. Carlo was also with us that night. And he also fell in love with RAAB’s terrariums. They exchanged plant stories.

Isabel worked on RAAB’s logo and branding. How lovely. Since I mentioned the terrariums in my blog, RAAB had been contacted for orders and features by magazines.

Terrarium No 17 : Triptych Cliffs. I love how this looks like a miniature landscape. Photo from RAAB’s Facebook Page.

Our beautiful terrarium by Raab.
And here is our own Terrarium by RAAB. I just used my iPhone for this photo. I love staring at our terrarium. It’s so soothing! I could be wrong but this looks like Terrarium No 15 : La colina in red. Score!

I got ours at the Freakin Chicken booth at the Negros Fair in Rockwell Tent yesterday. RAAB is there. He also cooks. He makes a really good Bacolod beef soup called Kansi. Buy it. You will love it. He’s there ’til tomorrow Sunday, September 30. After, you can find him thru his Facebook Page.

I just love it when people pursue their passions. Get really great at them. And share them with the rest of the world.

Jewelmer for Unicef

I’ve written about my love for Jewelmer many times. Some have asked if I am a Jewelmer endorser. Technically, no. I’ve never appeared in any of their ad campaigns. But Jewelmer was a major sponsor of F for many years. And that’s the depth of my relationship with their brand. Up to now, when I have special occasions, I can call on them and request to wear their pieces. I did just that last February during our informal F reunion.

With Cher Calvin, Angel Aquino and Amanda Griffin last February 2012. We were drowning (happily) in Jewelmer pearls.

Jewelmer spent the whole media day with us and adorned us in Philippine south sea pearls.

We were photographed by Jake Versoza.

Played dress up. My gown was by Hindy Tantoco. We were styled by Millet Arzaga and MAC Cosmetics team.

Golden south sea pearls never cease to amaze me. These are endemic to the Philippines. Thus, our National Gem.

OMG right?

They are just so stunning.

Designing something. But this golden baroque south sea pearl from Jewelmer is so beautiful as is..
My golden baroque south sea pearl from Jewelmer. I waited months before an idea came up for the setting. Technically this is a baroque pearl even though it looks almost perfectly round to me.

I had it set in 18k gold by Jewelmer using their Stella ring design. But I took out the diamonds on the sides. I wanted the pearl to appear suspended and naked.

This is what I did to my golden south sea pearl from @Jewelmer. I wanted the pearl to appear like it's floating. #happy
I always get complimented whenever I wear this ring. And it’s totally simple!

Here’s what it looked like on my Instagram.

And here’s what it looks like on me. I am falling in love with this strand. Photo by Kat Palasi 2012.

I can’t get over the fact that Jewelmer donated an entire strand of golden south sea pearls to UNICEF’s Auction for Action. I would love this piece to go way above market price to raise more funds for children. But you’ll never know how auctions turn out. You could end up with a strand that’s half the price of retail. Watch this piece on Monday…

Jewelry in Auction for Action

Auction for Action goes live in two days. You can log on to this site on Monday morning. If you want to see the complete listing of items, check out Unicef Philippines’ Flickr album.

I know many of my readers are fans of jewelry. Here is a great opportunity to own beautiful pieces by top jewelry designers and brands. Because of the nature of auctions, there is a possibility that you could end up with a winning bid below market price. Have a look at the pieces and check which ones you want to watch. You have seven days to track the bidding process and strategize (October 1 to 7)…

Elle Decoration Launch

Last night I hosted the launch of Elle Decoration Philippines. It is Elle Decoration’s 26th edition. For many of us Elle Decor fans, having our own local edition means a lot. Apparently there were five events happening at the same time last night. But by the looks of it (and the feel, the Met Museum was crowded), all roads led to Elle Decoration Philippines.

The entrance to the BSP Met Museum was enveloped in this beautiful installation made of rattan. Joey Samson created my outfit. I love the blouse and skirt idea. The skirt is gorgeous, with intricate folds and a bustle at the back.

Summit Media’s Liza Gokongwei and Esquire’s Jerome Gomez

Chut Cuerva’s beautiful Batangas home is on the cover of the maiden issue. He reminded me of the first time he had his home photographed years ago. He asked me to stand in as the “young mom” of the house together with his other model friends. Unfortunately I had to flake last minute. So I was supposed to be the mom of this house. Haha. With Chut in this photo is Aurora Suarez, Summit Media publisher.

Blue Carreon, who writes for Forbes, and Interior Designer Nina Santamaria.

Esquire’s EIC Erwin Romulo and Michael Salientes. Next week… Esquire Ball.

With Preview Editor in Chief Pauline Juan. The shoes!

They are by Rick Owens.

National Book Store’s Xandra Ramos Padilla and Town&Country’s Editor in Chief Yvette Fernandez.

Rug designer Inigo Elizalde, Nix Alanon and Rajo Laurel.

With Kenneth Cobonpue. We were actually together the night before at an intimate dinner event I hosted for Globe Business.

The always elegant Josie Natori.

I don’t have photos of me hosting on stage. I’ll have to ask Summit Media for files of those as this was a special moment for me. I’ve been a fan of Elle Decor for many years. Must mention that my make up was done by Claire De Guzman and hair by Avril, our beauty team in Cocktales.

Ito Kish, whose award-winning Gregoria chair was on display at the event.

It is the same Gregoria donated by Ito to Unicef’s Auction for Action. The wave table is by Vito Selma.

"It's so hard to let go of something so beautiful." - from #PrettyWoman #elledecorlaunch @jewelmer
This is the set of south sea pearls I wore from Jewelmer. So pretty!

It was a wonderful night. Bonus treat was seeing the Claudio Bravo exhibit of portraits. I’ve only seen one before, in Mrs. Marcos’ old condo. Seeing the many different portaits in one gallery was really a visual feast. Go see it at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila. And grab a copy of Elle Decoration Philippines. Believe it or not, I actually forgot to get one for myself. Haha.

K&Company dresses

I have no real outfit posts except for the ones from when I’m shooting Cocktales. I wish I could post my everyday random outfits but they are just too boring and random. Plus, my phone hadn’t been backed up in a while and I can’t take any more photos. Oh my. Real problems.

Here are the new dresses I’ve worn from K&Company.

Cristalle Belo Henares came to the show. We taped this in mid-August. And yes this is the same K&Company lace dress I wore at the UNICEF press launch. When I love something, I use it over and over. It’s got a lovely shade of grey.

Cristalle talked about how she runs their businesses and her own personal goals of setting up a social enterprise. She had liposuction on her arms and proudly showed the Belo trademark contour on the shoulder area.

Sometimes I do wear prints. For this I played with colours – yellow shagreen cuff and coral earrings (vintage Sardinian coral).

I can make a gazillion silly faces. Stella inherited this trait from me.

Another printed dress. The colours are so refreshing. Wore my charm necklace which tends to flip over a lot. I’m okay with that because that’s the nature of pendants. It happens to Kris Aquino’s necklace too. I usually keep things simple but for this day I wore emerald drop earrings because I’ve missed them so much. I bought them in India last year.

This was when we had Karen Jimeno and Steph Zubiri on.

Former Supreme Court spokesperson Midas Marquez.

I wore the neon yellow/green version of this before. For the purple, I wore an old lariat from Avatar. And that ring, I designed it myself. I fell in love with that mandarin garnet stone and wanted it to appear suspended. Those are green tsavorites around it. Hmm, I should do a post about this ring.

This was shot just a few days ago. I love the colour and sheen of this dress. And it’s a bonus that it’s loose and drapey. For this I wore classic Jewelmer stud earrings. But the necklace is just a 15 dollar neckpiece from Forever 21 two years ago.

Our guest was former Ilocos Representative Ronald Singson who was convicted for 18 months for drug possession in Hong Kong.

This was the first time Ronald agreed to be interviewed on TV, no holds barred. He talked about life in detention, his “old” scene, and his new life. He has quit smoking and hard liquor and does anti-gravity yoga now. This interview will air this Sunday September 30 at 8:30pm on AksyonTV 41.
