Friendship Bracelets

Not just a friendship bracelet. This is the Sister Love Bracelet. #sophia #lily #craft
I remember having a friendship from yearbook camp in high school. I kept it on for the longest time. It was the grimiest thing – sweat, baths, rain, snow, dirt. But it was so special. Sophia and I learned how to make friendship bracelets a few weeks ago. She bought a how-to book from her school book fair. She made 70% of this – our first one – and gave it to Lily.

Charm bracelets
These days I still wear a friendship bracelet, but of the Links of London kind. I will add a handmade friendship bracelet from Soph when we resume crafting. For now, she has moved on to Minecraft. OMG. Anyway this Links of London one holds a lot of memories too. My sister Hanni and I got one each during our trip to Hong Kong. It’ll always remind me of that trip and my amazing time with her.

And just like the handmade one, this also gathers dirt and grime. But I’d like to think it’s all part of the story – the memories.

This year’s “go to” gift

We are on full-on Christmas mode. This year isn’t so complicated for me because I actually have one of the best products to give as gifts. Bench’s Daphne Home Scent. Now there are four scents – Acres of Lavender, Homemade Lemon Tart, Mint Jasmine Infusion, and for a limited time Green Forest Pine.

I’ve been Tweeting and Instagramming my scents to help everyone with gifting ideas. Each bottle is only P348. And they all come packed in chic boxes and sleeves the way Bench does their products.

I didn’t realize it had an effect on my own close friends! Ha ha. They’ve sent me private messages showing me their DAPHNE® presents! I’m so so amazed. Here are some. I’ve protected their identity so I don’t spoil their gift-giving experience.

Daphne Home Scent
“This year’s ‘go to’ gift.” — From M.

Mel christmas gifts daphne
“Daph, lookie. Managed to get the last few pcs of mint jasmine, my favorite. Told you they could run out.” — From another M.

Daphne Scent Jasmine
“Mint jasmine infusion. So so good.” — From K (She wrapped each bottle in the nicest paper and grosgrain ribbons.)

I guess I’m going to have to give them something else for Christmas. Can’t give them DAPHNE home scents anymore. But everyone else on my list. You know what you’re getting. Ha ha.

DAPHNE Home Scents are available at Bench and Dimensione (also in Bench Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Fujairah.)

Windows 8

A few weeks ago, I participated in the launch of Windows 8. As one of the ambassadors of Windows 8, I got to preview the program and apps on my choice of Windows 8 gadget. I’m now playing with the Samsung ATIV SmartPC at home while waiting for my own SmartPC Pro version to come. It’s been fun.

The hybrid laptop-tablet has totally changed my perception of Windows. I used to not be able to navigate a PC before. But with this new Windows 8 and its beautiful interface, I’m enjoying it. The experience is largely based on the Live Tiles and Live Apps that integrate all your apps, games and functional (serious) work programs in a very attractive way. I was impressed.

Windows 8 Ambassadors Jim Saret, Janice Crisostomo Villanueva, Daphne Oseña-Paez, Karen Pamintuan, Microsoft Philippines Managing Director Karrie Capellan-Ilagan, Ernie Lopez, Christian Bautista, and KC Montero

Janice Crisostomo-Villanueva and I with Mae Rivera-Moreno, Windows Client Lead at Microsoft Philippines. We demonstrated my favourite feature — People Tile. This consolidates all your social networking sites so that it is filed by people and not by site.

These colourful boxes are called Live Tiles. These tiles show the content of what they represent. They change and update you in real time so you can see what’s going on – whether about your favourite sports team, the weather, new messages, or people updates.  You can switch tasks easily, find the info that you want and launch your favourite apps.

Karrie Capellan-Ilagan, Managing Director of Microsoft Philippines. (Off topic, I love her hair. It’s so refreshing to see women with beautifully bobbed hair).

There are a lot of Windows 7 devices. This is the Acer Iconia Tab w510. Another interesting feature of Windows 8 is the password screen. Instead of using characters, you can choose your favorite photo then create three strokes on it as your password.

The People Tile in new #windows8 puts all the people you're following and friends with in one place. Cool! #windows8ph
The People Tile consolidates all your social networking sites so you see updates organized by names instead of sites. Easier for keeping track of your loved ones. Or the ones you want to stalk. Ha ha.

Love my #windows8ph hybrid - laptop slash tablet. Hey @jamieoliver, nice app preview!
This is the Samsung ATIV Smart PC I’m using at home. It’s a laptop with a detachable screen that can be used as a tablet.

Windows8 Me
Here’s what the tablet of the Samsung ATIV looks like. Slightly longer and bigger but still very light weight and thin. Plus it packs a lot of power.

Jimmy Fallon and Mariah Carey

I know I should just be tweeting a link to this. But it’s too cute. And I want some Christmas cheer on this site. It’s been crazy busy for me, I feel like I’m neglecting you. Sorry!

Hope this brings more holiday cheer!!
