Tory Burch fragrance and cosmetics

Finally, the wait is over. Tory Burch Eau de Parfum and beauty capsule collection are available in Manila. Last week I attended the launch at the newly redesigned Tory Burch Greenbelt store.

The capsule collection includes carefully selected essentials that will flatter a range of skin tones – a lipstick, a lip and cheek tint, a bronzer and blush palette and a retractable face brush. Each product comes enveloped in gorgeous distinctive packaging – graphic gold and orange fretwork which look like pretty accessories in itself.

The Tory Burch Bronzer & Blush in Divine features three skin brightening, luminous shades – in pink, gold and ivory – pressed into one palette. The palette is delicately scented with notes of mandarin, tuberose and vetiver. The Tory Burch Lip Colour in Pas du Tout delivers a sheer veil of colour in Tory’s signature shade of pinky nude — creamy in texture, with a faint shimmer and universally flattering pale neutral pink shade. The lipstick is scented with subtle notes from the fragrance including cassis, grapefruit and mandarin.

“Fragrance is part of my personal history — my parents each had their favourite scents that are so tied to my memories. When we decided to create a fragrance, we spent a lot of time thinking about what it should be — a balance of femininity and tomboy, citrus and floral, grounded and graceful.” –Tory Burch.

“It’s similar to the clothes and accessories we design — sophisticated but down to earth, combining disparate ideas you don’t usually see together. The fragrance is the same way. There’s a brightness to the scent when you first smell it, and then you realize that it’s more complex.” — Tory Burch.

The outer packaging is in the brand’s signature colour, a vibrant orange, while the fragrance is pale pink. The glass bottle is clean with beveled edges and cosmetics feature a metal detail in gold fretwork.

There is a special limited edition solid fragrance that comes in a sliding locket featuring Tory’s signature fretwork. This is available only in the Tory Burch Greenbelt 5 shop and not in the Rustan’s beauty counters.

The Tory Burch Eau de Parfum mixes florals, citrus and woods. The feminine floral notes include peony, tuberose, jasmine sambac and sweet alyssum. The crisp citrus and fruit notes include grapefruit, mandarin, bergamot, cassis and neroli. The depth and complexity come from warm cedar and sensual sandalwood. Vetiver remains the signature note in the scent.

With Theya Quing of Estee Lauder Philippines. It was an intimate afternoon affair, so I wore the new silk dress I bought in Bali from a store called Magali Pascal.

I really love the way the store looks now. Sometimes I go into this room and pretend it’s my closet. Haha.

I just love the colour palette of this entire store – orange, gold, green and silver blue. Word has it that every single feature had to be imported from the same suppliers that do Tory Burch boutiques around the world. My favourite, the huge double doors. Now I forgot to take a picture of that. But next time you’re in GB5 take a look at those doors. Yum!

A couple of weeks ago I attended the MAC Wicked Greening event at their boutique in Glorietta.

I got to witness the application of Elphaba’s green make up. I’d say the whole face took less than half an hour.

Ali Calder is this international production of Wicked’s Elphaba understudy.

Wicked’s make up artist Kellie Ritchie demonstrated the application of Elphaba’s green make up using all MAC cosmetics. The green body paint isn’t available commercially. It is part of their PRO line.

With Ali Calder and Steve Danielsen who plays Fiyero, the leading man. They rushed back to the CCP shortly after this event to prepare for that evening’s performance. Which I got to watch.

With Estee Lauder’s Country Manager Mel Lerma. My first friend since birth.

This face chart shows how you can do a MAC Wicked-inspired look with emphasis on the eyes using shades of green.

That evening after the MAC Wicked Greening event, we had dinner at the Diamond Hotel then proceeded to the CCP to watch Wicked.

I had to ask a reader to take my photo. (After he took a photo with me. So sweet. I love meeting you guys.)

It was a treat to watch the production with Manila’s top editors and writers – Cheche Moral, Agoo Bengzon, Jane Kingsu and Cai Subijano.

That night I got home and found this note in my bedside. From Lily. She knew I was watching Wicked without them. And made sure I knew how she felt. Haha.

So a few days after, I chanced upon some good seats for a Yolanda benefit from Tessa Prieto. I bought three tickets for Soph, Lily and my Mom for the January 31st show. They loved it. All three girls are singing show tunes everyday.

Wicked is showing in Manila until March 9th. For more information on Wicked in Manila, click here. For updates from MAC Cosmetics, click here.

Happy Skin

Shut Up & Kiss Me moisturizing lippie from Happy Skin

I’m so glad I got to attend the launch of Happy Skin, a new local brand of cosmetics. This is the brainchild of Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez, known to beauty insiders because of her many years of working in a multinational beauty brand. She recently left her corporate job and set up her own baby — a line of cosmetics that multitask to keep skin happy, thus the name.  While the product was being formulated in Japan, Jacqe approached model Rissa Mananquil-Trillo to try some samples. Rissa loved the products so much that she asked to invest in the company.

The first thing I tried were the lippies. I’m a fan of this type of formulation of fat crayons like Clinique’s Chubby Stick and Revlon’s Just Bitten balm stain. I was pleasantly surprised to find more pigmentation on Happy Skin’s Shut Up & Kiss Me lippies. And despite the opaque colours, it is still very moisturizing. Apparently is loaded with Shea Butter plus vitamins A and E.

Yesterday morning I was stuck in traffic at the skyway and Makati. I got off my car and took the MRT so I could make it in time for a live guesting at Mornings at ANC. I didn't even have time to retouch makeup. I used Rissa and Jacqe's new line Happy Skin
From my instagram a couple of weeks ago. I had to post this photo from when I was stuck in traffic at the Skyway and Makati and I would have been late for a live TV guesting at Mornings at ANC. I ended up getting off my car and taking the MRT. I had used Happy Skin’s powder foundation and lippie. I didn’t even have time to retouch makeup and went straight to the set of the morning show. I believe I still looked human.

Happy Skin’s skin-loving products were designed to be fuss-free, easy-to-apply, and come in shades specifically formulated to complement Filipina skintones. According to Jacqe, “all Happy Skin products are infused with special skincare ingredients, such as Japanese tea leaf, cherry blossom, hyaluronic acid, and Argan oil, to name a few. All our key products are sourced and made in Japan because we recognize the importance of skincare in this beauty capital.”

Eye Need a Miracle concealer. This goes on smoothly and is not cakey at all.

Dont Get Mad, Get Even hydrating makeup

Pretty packaging with witty names.

The event fell on the week before our UNICEF Auction for Action so I wore one of my UNICEF Tshirts.  Dress code said “happy colours” anyway.

Always such a pleasure bumping into Lucy Torres Gomez

Jacque and Rissa with model friends Phoemela Baranda, Bubbles Paraiso and Valerie delos Santos

With Ces Drilon.

With Ruby Gan, Lourd Ramos and Apples Aberin. We all came solo.

With Agoo Bengzon and Pauline Juan

At the time of launch, Happy Skin was only available at select Plains & Prints boutiques. But today, Jacque announced that they will be sold at Beauty Bar! Congrats ladies!!!

Range Picture

Those of you who’ve been reading me for a while know that Lily had some mild eczema as a toddler. We were able to control some of the inflammation by using Mustela Stelatopia. Now she’s fine and hasn’t had any outbreaks the past year. I hope she’s over it. For maintenance and minor irritation we still keep Stelatria in our stash. I also use it for minor burns and irritation. If you think your child has atopic dermatitis please see a pediatrician first. There are times when our doctor prescribed corticosteroid creams and antibiotics. So please see a doctor first.

Back to Mustela… they recently launched its new formulation for the Mustela Bebe line with Avocado Perseose as the new active ingredient. “To make baby’s skin less vulnerable while protecting this unsuspected wealth of stem cells, the Mustela scientific team at Expanscience Laboratories found that this active ingredient is capable of both supporting the development of the barrier function and, even more importantly, protecting the reserve of cells against day-to-day stresses. Safely preserved, this cellular resource can continue to play its role of restoring and maintaining the overall balance in the skin throughout life.”

Mustela has four product ranges. The Mustela Bebe range are products formulated for everyday skincare needs from newborn onwards. The Mustela Dermo-Paediatrics range gives solutions to specific skin problems like eczema, nappy rash, cradle cap and intolerant skin. But please check the ingredients if your child has allergies. My nephew who is allergic to nuts and dairy couldn’t use this. Mustela 9 Months range is formulated for mothers who are expecting. And Mustela Sun Protection protects the delicate, fragile or intolerant skin (atopic, hypersensitive, reactive, etc) of babies and children.

Here are some products we are using from the Bebe line…

Foam Shampoo for Newborns
This Foam Shampoo is for newborns but I also like using these on my Stella and Lily. It’s quite mild and its got a lovely baby scent that smells like their natural scent.

Face Cream
This Face Cream is wonderful for all kids. Confession, I use it too sometimes.

Dermo Cleansing Gel
Mustela Dermo Cleansing Gel gently cleanses your baby’s skin and hair thoroughly yet delicately and respects delicate skin and scalp with its soap-free formula.
Mustela in the Philippines is exclusively distributed by PHARMASAFE, INC. and is available in the following branches: Stand Alone Kiosks: Ayala Trinoma, Robinson’s Ermita, Glorietta 4, Shangrila Mall, Megamall A, Greenhills, The Shops, Alabang Town Center, and Mall of Asia. Shop-In-Shop: Rustan’s and Landmark Department Stores, Mothercare, Pure Beauty, Numa Eco Baby Store, Medela House, & Chimes Department Store, Davao.
