Dr Vicki Belo’s garage sale fundraising for Typhoon Yolanda

Last Saturday, Nov 16, 2013, The Belo Medical Group held a garage sale at The Residences at Greenbelt clinic. It was swiftly organized in order to respond quickly and address the need for relief goods. Belo endorsers donated their “pre-loved” things like clothes, bags and shoes which were sold at low prices. The group raised P650,000 from the garage sale and Dr Vicki Belo’s online auction of luxury bags in Instagram.

Luxury and designer bags, shoes and clothes such as Dolce and Gabanna, Christian Louboutin, Gucci, Bvlgari, Balenciaga, Christian Dior, Diane Von Furstenberg and Louis Vuitton were just some of the items sold during the garage sale. Prices went from as low as P100 to P5,000.

?Some of Belo endorsers who donated their pre-loved items are: Christopher de Leon, Sandy Andulong, Alden Richards, Christian Bautista, Toni Gonzaga, Karylle, Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, Angeline Quinto, Derek Ramsay, Jennylyn Mercado, Hayden Kho, Daiana Menezes, Alodia Gosiengfiao, Iza Calzado, Bing Loyzaga, Edu Manzano and Grace Lee.

?Dr. Vicki Belo herself was hands-on during the event, helping out the cashier and bagging the items into biodegradable plastic bags. In addition to the garage sale, Dr. Vicki auctioned off some of her designer bags through her instagram account. Belo Medical Group also donated used tarpaulins, and Belo employees donated their Christmas basket budgets to the cause.

Some highlights from the garage sale. Photos from Belo Medical Group.

Samsung Hope Centers

Samsung Service Hope Centers at Mandaue City.

On November 12, four days after Haiyan struck, I got word that Samsung pledged USD $1 million in cash aid to help with recovery and rebuilding efforts. Samsung made direct donations to three NGOs. It made me so proud that the company I am endorsing has so much heart and generosity.

In addition, Samsung Electronics Philippines (SEPCO) dispatched employee volunteer groups to the disaster areas. The Samsung volunteers, comprised of service engineers and employees from various departments are providing on-ground assistance for people in need.

Today I got one picture from the good work that they’re doing in the Visayas. They opened some Samsung Service Hope centers to help the victims wash their clothes. Centers are located in ABS CBN Jagobiao, North Road, Mandaue City and at the Tinago Sports Complex . Victims of the recent typhoon can just go there and wash their clothes for free. They even give free detergent. Next week if they get a venue locked in, Samsung will be servicing Leyte.

For onground info for Samsung Service Hope Centers contact Sheila at 09178043582 of Samsung or Ms. Lotis at 0916-5807694.

Thank you for the love, Samsung.

Moleskine 2014

It’s that time of year when I get to choose my Moleskine planner in National Book Store. Despite having so many gadgets and apps, I still love writing my lists and reminders on paper – plus all the sketches, ideas, quotes from the kids. Nothing replaces good old-fashioned pen and paper. I loved my 2013 planner – It was the Yoda “Do or Do Not, There is No Try”.

Moleskine Professional Planners 2014
The range of Professional Diaries introduces the Dashboard Diary—a vertical format diary large enough to accommodate a packed schedule with lists that can be detached when complete. They also added the Turntable Diary, a unique format designed to be used either horizontally or vertically for greater flexibility when planning the week. Professional Diaries are ideal for business people or for those with busy careers that need extra help in organizing their schedules.

And because I am now a real “cooking mama” I got myself a Recipe Journal. I found myself bookmarking tried recipes online, but I still need a one-stop thingy to read and refer to when I’m cooking.

Kobo x National Book Store

I hosted the launch of the partnership between Kobo and National Book Store. Kobo’s award-winning Kobo Touch™, Kobo Glo and Kobo Arc eReading devices will be exclusively available at selected National Book Store locations, Powerbooks, and online at nationalbookstore.com.

I have to be honest, this all new to me. I still love reading real books. I’ve resisted buying eReaders, though my phone has a few of the apps. I buy magazines on Zinio. But because it’s been “too easy”, I’ve not been excited about digital versions of magazines anymore. So I went back to buying paper magazines. With books, I’m just beginning to get it. When traveling or moving around, it gets pretty crazy carrying a heavy book around. This is where Kobo comes in. For me, it’ll be a supplement to my physical books.

Enjoying my new #kobo from National Book Store. It weighs so light! I still love paper books more, a digital version is a good supplement though. It'll retail at @nbsalert on Sept 20. #koboglo @aranazph tote & @katespadeny wallet.
I am trying out the Kobo Glo using a reviewer’s account. (I’m reading Manila Noir). I love how almost weightless it is! Only 185 g. And the screen feels and looks good! My daughter Sophia wants it, so this one is hers.
