Why do women lie about their age?

Have I ever lied about my age? When I was 17 or 18 and wanted to get in to bars in Toronto, maybe . (Sorry, mom and dad). Back then the age of majority was 19 (now 18). I always got carded — by nature of my genes and ethnicity, I looked younger than my age.

Olay Philippines has an interesting campaign about age. My take on this – and it sounds cliche – is that age really is just a number. I’m 43 and I love being 43. I enjoy seeing the shock on people’s faces when they learn my age… especially in North America.

There is one downside to aging — the feeling that time is going by so fast. Too fast. Especially when you have little children, special people, and work that you love. That’s the only issue for me. Aging and health issues scare me.

But on the physical side, I’m not really worried. Have you seen my mother? She’s turning 70. Most people think she’s lying. She looks 20 years younger.

Nate Berkus for Target

How is everybody’s long weekend going? I was supposed to take a blog break this weekend but I couldn’t contain myself. Because I just found out that Target is now my site partner!!!

Up until this Spring, I was a Target virgin. I’d never shopped in Target before. We didn’t have Target in Canada forever. And with every trip to New York, my New Yorker SIL cringed at the thought of us stepping inside a mall. So, until Target first opened in Mississauga this March, I’d never been before! Don’t laugh but I actually went on the first day of opening. Haha. Then a few trips to Target Buffalo as well. Target is fun!

So what does this mean for DAPHNE readers? I hope to do a weekly round up of my favourite Target picks. Those in the US can easily click and shop. And for those of us here in the Philippines, we can shop and have the goods delivered to a US address. Isn’t that what balikbayan relatives are for? Haha. So click, click and fill up your balikbayan boxes regularly.

For my first Target post, I did the obvious — everyone’s design crush Nate Berkus. Most have already been marked down. I hope you find something you love here. Or at least, some inspiration.

Juniper Books

I’ve seen this in countless magazines and design sites, a favourite of interior designers and set designers – using books as decor, art, highlight. I love collecting beautifully bound versions of classics I’ve read in the past. I dig through book sales and antique shops in search of (if you’re lucky) leather-bound and engraved books.

Juniper Books can turn any book into a work of art – from classics to cookbooks. The design and print custom book jackets and covers in different genres. These make the perfect gifts for someone who has everything… or for anyone who loves books.

For a very limited time – like three days – these book collections and services from Juniper Books are on sale at One Kings Lane. All photos and text below, from OKL.

Nice Print Photography

I remember when the world of weddings was all I could think about. I used to be the editor-in-chief of Metro Weddings. Though I only did four issues/two years, I met some of my best friends there. It was wonderful. But I quickly outgrew it. I think after you become a bride, you move on to decorating your home and for some, being a mom. But I do remember all the lovely shoots and concept weddings we created and styled. Now that I see how huge and successful the wedding industry is, a part of me wishes I had stayed on.

A friend of mine, Charisse Santillan-Tinio, who I met through Urban Zone when we featured her house, is doing quite well in the wedding industry. She used to own a few photo labs. But when people stopped having photos printed, she shifted her business to photography services. Now,  Nice Print Photography & Exige Weddings is one of the most popular choices of celebrities for their weddings. Check out the albums of Carmina and Zoren, John and Priscilla, Ogie and Regine among a few.

Watsons

Watsons invited me and a few bloggers to experience the revamp of their new shopping experience and brand revamp. We shopped with the new refreshed brand “look and feel” — modified Watsons logo, store interiors, brand visuals and new store front. There are new staff and manager uniforms featuring a smart tailored look, together with enhanced pharmacy, health and beauty counseling for customers, delivering a new level of personalized shopping.

There is a wide selection of health and beauty products personal care, skincare, hair care, cosmetics. Filled my basket with pocket tissues and wet wipes (always practical in this world of bring-your-own-tissues). I’m also trying BYS nail polishes for the first time – one is matte and the other one is scented.

I decided to stock up on these boxes of tissues. They were on sale and were already very cheap to begin with. Oh my shoes – if you’ve been following my Instagram during my travels, you’d remember these one of the pairs of Swedish Hasbeens I bought in Imelda shoe store in Toronto. Dress is from J.Crew.

“The new brand ‘look and feel’ is designed to reflect Watsons’ dynamism, immediacy and personal touch that today’s customers in Asia expect from a leading retailer,” said Viki Encarnacion, Watsons Philippines Marketing Director. “We are enhancing the overall Watsons’ shopping experience, whilst continuing to ensure our pioneering products.”

I tried this deep heat massager. Because I have a neck situation, I bought it. I’m using it sparingly though until I get the go signal from a physical therapist.

Bumped into Frances Sales of Topaz Horizon there with her cute boys Inigo and Vito. I miss this baby/toddler stage. Sigh.
